Welcome To Lago Mar

The Legacy of Lago Mar

The Lago Mar golf course was constructed in 1969 by Mr. Walter Banks who, owning the Lago Mar Resort Hotel on Ft. Lauderdale beach, wanted to be able to offer his guests a golf amenity. The course architect, Mr. Bill Watts has designed 10 other courses in Florida including Miami Lakes Country Club and Deercreek Country Club as well as 4 other courses in Georgia and 1 in Taiwan.

In 1980 the Banks family sold the club to it's members and it has operated as a private Country Club since that time. It has hosted numerous local and state tournaments and the Women's Southern Championship in 1973. The Club has always been a family friendly Club with an active Junior membership and many young families who enjoy the game of golf together.

The Club underwent a minor renovation in 1998 when they rebuilt 4 greens and created a new practice pitching/bunker area behind the 15th green.

Fast forward to 2009. Upon entering into an agreement with the Florida Dept. of Transportation to provide drainage acreage for the expansion of State Highway 595, the Club completely renovated the golf course with new tees, greens, irrigation, landscaping, fairways, roughs, cart paths, and a new driving range. They retained the services of noted architect Kipp Schulties who was recognized by Golf, Inc. as one of the top five designers classified as the "Next Generation of Great Golf Course Architects"-an industry designation presented only once every five years. Kipp's body of work includes his award winning renovation of Mayocoo Lakes, Lost Tree, Sailfish Point, Addison's Reserve, and the Boca Raton Resort Hotel courses just to name a few of his local projects. With a projected re-opening in December, 2009, Lago Mar will be the newest Private golf course in the Dade/Broward area.
